Classic French Beignets

Light, fluffy French-style beignets dusted with powdered sugar, perfect for a sweet breakfast or snack. These deep-fried dough pillows are crispy on the outside and soft inside.

Steps

1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. 2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. 3. Add warm milk, egg, and the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients; mix until a smooth dough forms. 4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size. 5. Heat oil in a deep pan to 180°C (350°F). 6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1 cm thickness. 7. Cut the dough into small squares or rectangles. 8. Fry the dough pieces in hot oil until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. 9. Remove and drain on paper towels. 10. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
