French Onion Soup

Steps

1. Thinly slice the onion. 2. In a pot, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. 3. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 20-30 minutes. 4. Pour in the beef broth and let simmer for 10 minutes. 5. Season with salt and pepper. 6. Preheat the broiler. 7. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls, top with a slice of baguette and sprinkle with Gruyere cheese. 8. Place under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly. 9. Serve hot.
