Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken (Without Basil Leaves)

A crispy and flavorful Taiwanese street snack made from bite-sized marinated chicken pieces, seasoned with traditional spices and fried to golden perfection, without the usual basil leaves.

Steps

1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, five-spice powder, minced garlic, and white pepper. 2. Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and mix well. Marinate for at least 30 minutes. 3. Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer to 180°C (350°F). 4. Coat the marinated chicken pieces evenly with sweet potato starch. 5. Fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes. 6. Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and optional chili powder or fried garlic if desired. 7. Serve hot as a snack or appetizer.
