Steps

1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions. 2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and fry until they start to sizzle. 3. Add the sliced onions to the skillet and cook until they turn golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally. 4. Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to the skillet. Stir well to coat the onions evenly. 5. In a separate bowl, whisk the plain yogurt until smooth. Season with salt to taste. 6. Serve the cooked basmati rice on a plate and top it with the caramelized onions. Drizzle the yogurt sauce over the rice. 7. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
