
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice according to package instructions.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and fry until they start to sizzle.
- Add the sliced onions to the skillet and cook until they turn golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally.
- Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to the skillet. Stir well to coat the onions evenly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the plain yogurt until smooth. Season with salt to taste.
- Serve the cooked basmati rice on a plate and top it with the caramelized onions. Drizzle the yogurt sauce over the rice.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
