Classic American Apple Pie

Steps

1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). 2. Roll out the pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish. 3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. 4. Transfer the apple mixture into the pie crust, arranging the slices in an even layer. Dot the top with the small pieces of butter. 5. Roll out the remaining pie crust and place it on top of the apple filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal the pie. 6. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg wash. 7. Cut a few slits on the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking. 8. Place the pie on a baking sheet and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling. 9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. 10. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
