Steps
1. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
2. In a small saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, coconut milk, water, salt, and sugar (if using).
3. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
5. After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and let the rice sit, still covered, for another 5 minutes to steam.
6. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro or mint before serving.
