Steps
1. Toast the slice of country bread until golden and crispy.
2. On a flat surface, place one slice of toasted bread.
3. Layer the ham slices over the bread.
4. Sprinkle half of the grated Gruyere cheese on top of the ham.
5. Place a second slice of toasted bread on top and press gently.
6. Heat a pan over medium heat and place the sandwich in it, allowing the Gruyere to melt completely inside.
7. Once the cheese has melted and the sandwich is warm, transfer it to a plate.
8. Sprinkle the remaining Gruyere cheese on top of the sandwich, letting the residual heat slightly melt it.
9. In a separate pan, melt butter or heat oil and fry the egg sunny side up until the white is set but yolk remains runny.
10. Place the fried egg atop the sandwich.
11. Garnish with chopped chives and freshly ground black pepper.
12. Serve immediately and enjoy.
