
Steps
- Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute.
- Add chopped bell pepper and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
- Add diced tomatoes, turmeric powder, garam masala, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for 5 minutes until tomatoes soften.
- Add drained basmati rice to the pan and gently mix with the vegetable mixture.
- Pour water over the rice and vegetables, cover the pan, and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before fluffing the rice with a fork.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
