Steps

1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear. 2. In a saucepan, combine the lentils, water, turmeric, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. 3. Cover and cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until lentils are soft and the water is absorbed. 4. In a separate pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and sauté until fragrant. 5. Add the chopped onion and cook until it turns golden brown. Then, add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute. 6. Stir in the chopped tomato and cook until it softens. 7. Mix the tomato-onion mixture into the cooked lentils and adjust salt if necessary. 8.
