English Onion Soup

A classic English soup with a rich and comforting flavor of caramelized onions.

Steps

1. Slice the onions thinly. 2. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes. 3. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes. 4. Pour in the broth and add the bay leaf and thyme. Season with salt and pepper. 5. Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. 6. Preheat the broiler in your oven. 7. Ladle the soup into oven-safe bowls. Place a slice of toasted bread on top of each bowl and sprinkle with shredded cheese. 8. Place the bowls on a baking sheet and broil until the cheese is melted and golden brown. 9. Serve hot and enjoy!
